Rudiments

Yamaha Hybrid Drum Rudiments
After a reminder of the first 40 rudiments on the left side of the page, Yamaha had James Campbell added the next step - 40 hybrid rudiments, most commonly seen in modern marching percussion
Tenor Drum Rudiments
Taking the required skill a step further, Commandant’s Own tenor drummer Eric Carr compiled a list of the 33 most common rudiments on marching tenors
Mr. Gorman’s Guide to Chopping Out
Three Levels:
Play to the beat
Improvise to the beat (in meter)
Improvise off the beat (out of meter)
Tips and Tricks
Find the beat - Especially at level 3, make sure to hold on to it
Stay relaxed and stay loose
Don’t be afraid to choose songs that you don’t know as well for a bit of an initial challenge
For a greater challenge, choose songs with faster tempos or irregular time signatures
29 Noteworthy Percussionists
Of course, there are many more important percussionists than those seen here (and several of these percussionists
could easily fit into multiple categories). Check out the Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame for many more.
